I can get by on as little as 3 hours of sleep and still function. After about 4 days, I have to recharge and then, why I don't know, I just start the process over again.
When I was in LPN school, there would be times I would be up until 2 in the morning writing clinical paperwork, go to bed, get back up at 5:00-5:30 to study for a test, be at school from 7:30-4:00 come home and then work from 7pm-7am.
For what ever reason, this past week I have had a hard time sleeping. I have slept off and on all night then up for good at 6:30. Last night started my "stretch of 3" meaning 3 days of 12 hour shifts at work.
Last night kicked my butt and today I really needed to recharge. Did that happen? That's a big NO.
Why is it when you need to sleep:
- your dogs bark at EVERYTHING, including "I think there might be something out there" crap.
- your phone rings 7 different times and 4 of them are "sorry, wrong number"
- the UPS man, who was supposed to come yesterday when you were awake, comes today and rings the door bell 3 times back to back
- trucks that back up with the "beep, beep, beep" are on your street
I am not someone who can just hit the pillow and I'm out in 30 seconds. Sean can do that and it drives me nuts. He can wake up and go right back to sleep.
I have to unwind and have some sort of noise. I usually have to have the TV, the ceiling fan and the oscillating fan all on. Then, with each interruption, it takes me that much longer to get back to sleep.
I guess it's time to invest in some ear plugs.
