PULL!!!!

We took part in an early 4th of July celebration Saturday.

Before hand, Noelle and I went to a bridal shower for someone I took care of when I worked at La Petite. She was two at the time and will be getting married in July! I can't believe it.

Anyway, we celebrated with the Wilson's and had a wonderful time. Their son John was here for a couple of days from South America where he is a doctor working at a mission hospital. His wife Heidi has been here along with their son since November. Heidi gave birth to twins in February (John was here for that of course and had to return) and she has been here since.

Michael has had great fun playing with John and Heidi's son and will miss him greatly as the five of them head back to South America. They will be back for Christmas and we look forward to seeing them when they come back.

One of the things we did was skeet shoot. It's something Sean and I have always wanted to do. The kids even took part. It was amazingly fun and we hope to do it again.

The evening ended with a fantastic fireworks show.

We will be getting together with dad at our house for the 4th as mom and Amy will be in South Dakota. Our show will be nothing like the one we just saw, but it will still be fun.

Getting Closer~Really

The drywall was delivered and they should start putting it up in the next few days. Sean is so ready to be open.

Please pray that the city of Liberty is done making us jump through hoops! It seems that every time we are able to cross something off of their "requirements" list, they add two things. It's just nuts.

Don't get us started on tree's, green space or the need for a special handicap water fountain! (I guess you can't mount a regular water fountain at the level for someone in a wheelchair, even though it has the PUSH FRONT and can be easily be used by someone in a wheelchair!)

Beuhla's Replacement

It occurred to me that Beulah was never pictured, so here are a couple pictures of her. She served us well and was very reliable for our 1300 mile trip, and could go again.

Here is Katie! I am so happy to have her! (as you can see in the pictures, they guy who is renting the other side of the property STILL has not finished cleaning up his stuff!!)

  9. You only need one pair of underpants for a sleepover.
  10. Can I please have the patient hawking up loogies?

Bye-Bye Beuhla

Well, Beuhla is on her way out.

I came home to a wonderful surprise, Sean bought a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country! It has every option, (including leather) except power sliding doors. No big deal, the kids are old enough to open and close the doors on their own. We will should be able to sell Beuhla for what Sean paid for the new van.

I'll be posting a picture of her in the next couple of days, her name is "Katie The Chrysler".

Where Did The Week Go

Well, our time with the "Indiana Ehmke's" has come to an end and we are now home. We got home about 11:15 last night. We drove through some rain off and on, but for the most part, we had great weather driving both directions.

We were able to visit both churches they attend, one Saturday night and one Sunday morning. The one Saturday night was a lot like ours. The one Sunday morning was the one where Bible school took place and it was neat to hear the songs the kids learned and watch the video of different things that took place during the week.

The kids slept a good part of the way and thanks to Lori, we had some wonderful sweets to eat.

Michael had guitar lessons tonight and showed how Isaiah taught him how to play "Iron Man", Aaron was very impressed.

We had such a good time, we can't wait to do it again. It was so nice to visit with everyone and grow closer to them. It was the first time I had really spent any time with Merlin and Lori other an occasional together in Minnesota. For the kids, it was the first time they met most of their cousins. They met some of them when gramma died, but everyone was so little, they don't remember much.

Heading Home

The kids and I will be heading home after church tomorrow. Well, actually after we play a game of Skipbo. (never travel without it)

I've has so much fun here, it will be very hard to leave. You can really feel God's presence here. As I said before, my journey here started all because I decided to go to Josh's wedding. I've been able to share a lot of things that have been going on in my life over the last five or so years and just in conversation, felt God next to me, whispering "Do you now see Erin why I made it possible for you to go to the wedding?".

Already, I've had to "pinkie promise" we will be back next year and come for VBS. The kids have said we need to stay longer because we didn't get to do all the "fun stuff" because half the day was gone by the time we got home from VBS. I told them they would get sick of us and each time they say "no we wouldn't, you're too much fun".

Noelle has really connected with her cousins. Obviously more the girls than boys. She and Michaela have been cooking up some plan for her to stay here.

Michael has really connected with all the kids in some way. He tends to be a pretty much go with the flow kind of kid, (which is why his panic attacks caught me off guard) He has played with the youngest boys ages 2 & 4 and played with the older boys as well. Of the older boys, I'd say he really has a good connection with Daniel. It doesn't hurt they both play guitar. I believe he is also coming up with a plan to sneak one of the tea cup poodles into the suitcase.

I've put on a strong/brave front as they tell me they will cry when I leave and think that the kids and I should stay a few more days because they didn't get to spend as much time with us as they wanted to. I'm not going to lie, it will be very difficult to drive home and leave them here. Don't get me wrong, I have really missed Sean, but at the same time, I have so enjoyed connecting to a family that reminded me, (and I think the kids as well) how important it is to be connected to the Lord.

I'm going to miss all the excitement that goes on here and how much fun it is to watch the kids interact. As all kids do, they have their moments, but you can tell they really love each other. These kids are so truly wonderful to be around. The first night, they could tell something was wrong with Michael. Now, most of them had not seen him since my gramma died. They asked what was wrong and as soon as I told them, they stopped what they were doing and said a prayer. It wasn't like they were all in a group together. At different times, one by one they would come and ask how he was doing and asked if they could pray for him. It really brings tears to your eyes.

Merlin and Lori are just two amazing people. They have been married for 25 years and have 13 kids. Their house may be chaotic at times, but you know who the center of their world is.

So now, our bags are packed back up and after church and the promised Skipbo game, we will load Beulah and head home. Our hearts will be heavy, our eyes filled with tears and our minds full of fun memories made during our trip.

Next summer, I'm sure, won't get here fast enough.

An Update

There were no games to attend Wednesday so it was movie night, as it has been most nights.

  • Thursday Daniel had a game. They lost, coming in second for the season. He was up set with how it went and wasn't happy with his pitching. I explained to him that the pitcher can't get up there and strike every batter out, the players behind him should be catching pop flies running to the ground balls, not wait for them to roll to them. He said he didn't want the trophy and I said he should keep it because years from now, he will be glad he did. I reminded him that even though in this moment it stinks, there is a last place team that would like to have a second place trophy. There were several bad calls and the umps strike zone changed with just about every other pitch. I don't know, maybe I'm a little biased.

  • Thursday night Isaiah had a game, not enough of their players showed up and the other team wouldn't let them forfeit. So they only had seven players to play and started each at bat with an automatic out. I'm not sure if that game counted or not.

  • Friday, Sarah, Rachael, and Isaiah went to something called "Safe Sitter" and the rest of us, except Michaela had our last day of VBS. I can't believe it is almost time for us to go home. We of course miss Sean very much, but we have been having a fantastically, wonderful time. (Michael enjoys himself once I drug him up~I'm hoping this is something that goes away when we get home and I can talk to him a little more about it) Later that night Isaiah had a game. Two minutes before we got there, the other coach called Mer to let him know that they would only have seven players. This time, the other team let them forfeit, let Isaiah's team borrow one of their players, and played the game. They won, but it doesn't count, but hey, they got a good practice in.

  • Saturday, Faith and Shana have a game in the morning. After I see that game, I will officially have seen everyone who plays baseball or softball play. Sarah and Rachael have a late afternoon game. They are playing the team I saw them beat the other day. This team had beaten them in the past and so their team was shocked they won. The girls want me to wear the same clothes and sit in the same area I did the other day.

Baseball, Softball, Twirling and Swiming

The kids and I are having such a blast! Michael continues to have panic attacks. We were able to see someone, but the medicine won't be available until after 6pm today.

I wish I could figure out what is causing it. I have been having so much fun here. I'm thinking the kids and I will make it an annual trip. All the kids were excited about that and Michaela said that next time we should stay two weeks so we can have one week where we don't have to get up early. Everybody thought that would be a good idea. We'll have to see, but as of right now, I believe we will be making this an annual thing. Merlin and Lori said it sounds good to them.

Yesterday, I watched Sarah and Rachael play softball. The team won and Rachael made it to third twice in a row driving in 3 players each time. Sarah managed to get both her hands hit when up to bat.

Today, I watched some of Michaela's twirling group. Not something I can do, but definitely fun to watch. She is very, very good.

Tonight, I watched Daniel play baseball. He only played the last two innings. I guess he has had a lot of playing time and it was time for him to sit out for a while.

The kids spent a great deal of the day in the pool again. It seems the "fish gene" I got from my dad was passed on to them as well.

I'll be glad when I can get the other medicine tomorrow for Michael. The stuff I have makes him so sleepy and is not having the desired affect. He did fall asleep pretty fast tonight, must have been all that fresh air. He fell asleep pretty fast last night too, but had an attack after he had been up for about 30 minutes.

He cried at Bible school today when we were making the art project. They were making something to give someone who helps them by getting their hands dirty. He pulled his hat down close to his eyes and said "I have to make this for daddy. Not that I mean HAVE TO, but I have to". I gave him a big hug and said that was more than fine.

Ugh, 6pm tomorrow can't get here fast enough.

Calming Down~Fingers Crossed

It stinks that our doctor can't call in a prescription for me or Michael. The medicine he takes for his eczema is also used for anti anxiety. We increased the dose for now. If for some reason that doesn't work, there is a doctor here he can see.

He had a big melt down this morning, but is doing pretty good right now. He did well for Bible school and had a really good time.

I'm crossing my fingers that this will continue. He has had a couple more moments today, but they seem to pass and are not coming as quickly. It's nice to know that we can get into a doctor if we need to.

Noelle is having a blast and has been in the pool pretty much since we got back from Bible school. She should sleep pretty well tonight.

I'm hoping that Michael will sleep tonight as I would like to sleep as well.

I don't know how my aunt and uncle keep up with things.

Lori is dropping one of the boys off for his baseball game, stopping to pay a library fine and has the youngest one with her along with one of the girls to watch the little one who will more than likely crash.

Merlin went to the bread store, picked up one of the girls from a lifeguard class and then we will be going to watch two of the other girls play ball.

I thought my life was crazy with my two~I guess I was wrong.

Ugh, I Can't Sleep!!!

Here are a few things you should know:
  1. don't drive 12 hours in the car and forget your anti-inflammatory and pain medication, it makes it difficult to sleep when the pain in your hip/knee cap is so bad you want to hurl
  2. even if you take an Ambien, you will not sleep if you are in a great deal of pain, you are sleeping with your son who from time to time kicks, pushes and mumbles something about daddy, and even if it did make you sleepy, you are in "cat like mommy mode" so that you can comfort said son in a moments notice
  3. the sun comes up early here

Things I'm going to do today include, (and pretty much in this order):

  1. find the closest Wal*Mart pharmacy
  2. call Sean and have him call the doctor to call something in to help Michael relax, and new prescriptions for me to replace the ones I left at home so that I can enjoy myself pain free
  3. go to Vacation Bible School with the 12 relatives the kids and I are visiting
  4. watch one or more cousins play in a baseball game
  5. swim
  6. take a nap

It is officially 5:00 am. Michael has decided now is a good time to sleep deeply. If I fall asleep right now, I'll get maybe 2 1/2 hours. Wish me luck.

Long, Long Car Trip

Well, the kids and I made it to Indiana! We got here around 10:45 pm or so. (mom and dad let me borrow their lap top to study, but as a bonus, I get to blog as well.)

I had wanted to leave around 8 am. We hit the road at 10:20. We stopped to eat a picnic lunch, fill the car and a couple of pit stops.

The kids got along GREAT and really didn't fight. It helped that Noelle was in the front and Michael was in the back.

Noelle, having become the seasoned traveler slept most of the time. I'm pretty sure she almost finished a book she started when we backed out of the driveway.

Michael read a little but watched movies mainly. Michael was VERY upset to realize that we were leaving on Father's Day and freaked out. He called Sean twice before we even made it to the gas station. He did better as the day went on, but about 15 miles before the exit to Merlin and Lori's, Michael had a full blown panic attack. I have to admit, it freaked me out. I couldn't calm him down! He kept saying "I miss daddy" over and over again. Then he would yell "DADDY" with this total look of fear on his face. I had to pull over on the side of the road, get him out in the fresh air and help get his breathing under control.

I have only seen him like this, (only not as bad) in the weeks after he had his seizure. When that was going on, we got him some medication to help with panic attacks. I'm going to find the closest Wal*Mart pharmacy around here and have our doctor call in a prescription.

I feel so bad, he has been looking forward to coming for so long. He cheered up a little when we got here and started playing with the other kids. Then, after while, I could tell it was starting again. I tried the "do you want to go swimming with the other kids?", "do you want to help finish this puzzle?", "do you want the boys to show you the songs they know on guitar and you can show them what you know?".

No such luck. I knew we were beyond just talking calmly and deep breathing when he didn't want to do anything on guitar.

So now, instead of sleeping in the boys room, Michael is sharing a bed with me in the girls "dorm". Noelle and Rachel are sleeping in Rachel's room.

First thing in the morning, Sean's job will be to get a hold of the doctor and get something called in ASAP. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Here It Is

Here are a few pictures of Noelle's new room!

In front of her window are beads that normally go over a door way. The flash does funny things so I'm not sure why there are some "spots".

Above her closet doors it says "sign my wall". One of her friends was over today and said "my mom would never let me ride on the wall".

One of her closet doors says "beautiful" and the other says "fabulous".

She LOVES Her Room!!!

Noelle came home to a room that she had no say in.

SHE LOVED IT!!!

We painted it kind of a mocha color with pink words of inspiration all over. She has mirrored closet doors and a loft bed.

She can and her friends can write all around the wall where her closets are. I watched something called "The Last Lecture". In it, the man giving the lecture said "do me a favor, if your kids want to write on their walls, please, for me, let them do it". Of all the things he said in the lecture, that was the thing that stuck out.

In the video, he showed the room he grew up in with all the things he wrote. I thought how neat it was for him to go back years later and see the things he and his friends had written. Such a wonderful idea that goes against one of the first things kids learn "don't write on the wall". In the end, it's just a wall.

I'll post pictures later today. (hopefully) Noelle promises she will keep it clean. This will be a must!

She also got a lock on her door. We explained to her that the lock can come off in 15 minutes if the privilege is abused.

Surprise Noelle, I'm Blogging (so there dad)

My parents left Monday to take Noelle on her trip. While they have been gone, I've worked, dog sat, house sat, and been working on redoing Noelle's room. I have also been reminded by those traveling that I'm being a "bad blogger".

Noelle has NO idea what her room is going to look like. She knows that it will be painted and that she is getting new bedding. I was all excited about redoing her room, (I still am) but felt that twinge of "oh, she's no longer my little girl" as I peeled the last of her gingham wallpaper and puppy, kitten, bunny, and baby chick boarder off her walls.

She is 12 after all and should have more of a "big girl" room. (ugh, that hurt) We picked out the paint today and will be painting tomorrow as well as cleaning the carpet.

Noelle was asked before she left on her great adventure to clean her room. It is amazing the definition a 12 year old has of a "clean room". The nice part of redoing her room is that we have to take everything, (yes Noelle, everything) out to really do it the right way. Needless to say, the trash man will not be happy with us on Tuesday.

I have a feeling when she reads this, Noelle will be feeling the same feeling I used to feel when my parents would clean my room, which by the way was on my list of "I promise I will never do this to my kids"~oops!
