Ok, Here We Go

The Oscar nominees were announced to day. As I did last year, my goal is to see all the movies nominated. Again, that means 10 movies in less than a month.

Prior to the nominations, I had seen "Toy Story 3" and "Inception", and had enjoyed both of them. That left eight for me to see...in less than a month.

Last year, it was much easier to see all the movies since I was working at the shop and didn't have to get up before the sun. This year, I'm getting up around 5 and going to bed around 9:30; and if you know me well, you know the 9:30 is WAY early!!

Knowing how much fun it was to watch all of the movies and more or less see all the nominees, operation "See Them All 2011" began.

Sean and I watched "The Social Network" and "Winter's Bone". Let me just say "wow" and "wow" in two different tones.

The "wow" for "The Social Network" is for how how dry the CEO of Facebook appears to be. He seemed to come across, to me, as rather, I can't even think of a word to describe him. Kind of dry, uncaring, hard. It was interesting to see how it kind of evolved, but makes one wonder about just how much credit Mark Zuckerberg should get. That's just my opinion.

The "wow" for "Winter's Bone" is for knowing that the things that take place in this movie do actually take place. The female lead, Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic. However, there were parts that made me catch my breath so much so that I called mom to tell her I didn't think she should watch it. Her answer to that was "I'm a big girl".

I went with my friend Tina to see "Black Swan". Ok, let me just say that I'm SUPER happy this was not a movie I saw with my parents!!! I've never seen any movie past an "R" rated one and part of me feels like I did after watching it. Don't get me wrong, Natalie Portman does a GREAT job and I can see why she has been nominated and gotten the awards she has, but I wish I had done some research to prepare me for the movie. Again, I'm glad I didn't see it with my parents and I don't think anyone else should either.

That leaves; "127 Hours", "The Fighter", "The King's Speech", "The Kids Are All Right" and "True Grit" left for me to see. I'm honestly pretty excited to see all of them with the possible exception of "127 Hours", so I'll save that one for last.

Happy New Year!!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Winter has decided to show it's ugly side and provide us with nasty cold weather one day followed by a day or two of sunny days that make us long for spring. What can I say, it's Missouri.

The kids enjoyed three snow days last week and are now back to the daily grind that is school.

Noelle is signing up for classes for her ~ugh~ SOPHOMORE year. I ask again, when and how did this happen??? She has told us more than once, that she will be ready to take her drivers test to get her permit on her birthday. I don't think she really cares if we're ready or not. She spent several days over Christmas break in Chicago with the youth group. Some of her closest friends went as well, so she had a great time.

Michael is still rockin' the basement. He got a keyboard for Christmas and somehow he plays that along with his guitar. We still have our fingers crossed that he will play in the talent show. Michael had a cold during Christmas break that included an ear infection so bad, the doctor was surprised it hadn't ruptured. The kids, for some reason, will wait to say anything about their ears hurting until it gets to that point. It's interesting to note that they will live with ear pain, but a bump or bruise will set them over the edge.

Sean ended up selling 87 cars last year. In 2009, we sold 56. Not a bad jump for a little dealership. He's getting ready to start financing. It's not something he really wants to do, but it is becoming more and more evident that is the way things are headed. Most people that call are asking about financing. He's hired someone to work in the office. It's about impossible for Sean to get much done with people coming on the lost or calling with questions. She should start in about two weeks.

I've been working at an internal medicine office off the plaza since the first part of December. It stays pretty busy, but it's not really my dream job. However, it pays the bills and keeps me out of trouble...most of the time.
